When you leave the University
Computing accounts of staff and visitors are normally cancelled shortly after the UCS is aware that the person has left the institution. This information might have been gathered:
- from a datafeed from the University HR system, CHRIS
- from information supplied from the institution, either at the time that the person was first registered with the UCS or later
- for information supplied by the user either at the time of registration or later
- because accounts are or appear to be unused
In any case, all users whose accounts are about to be cancelled are normally sent a warning email before cancellation actually happens and have about a month to tidy up their accounts.
In exceptional circumstances, accounts may be cancelled at very short notice, if, for example, they are causing a problem or if an institution specifically requests cancellation.
It is normal practice to allow staff who retire from their University of College position and who are receiving a University or College pension to keep their University Comp uting Service accounts subject to the usual conditions and that the accounts are for personal use only.
Retiring staff should follow the appropriate link in the email warning of cancellation.
