Archiving, backups and file transfer
Obtaining file transfer clients
Most Unix releases will include an FTP client and many will also provide for SFTP and/or SCP. Otherwise, see the details of the CD described below.
Windows releases will normally include an FTP client.
For secure transfer, see http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ for pscp, a line-mode add-on for PuTTY, and iXplorer, a graphical interface, and http://winscp.net/eng/ for WinSCP.
For information on obtaining Macintosh clients (Fetch, NiftyTelnet, MacSFTP), see the Mac Support pages.
You can obtain a CD from Computing Service Reception (free of charge) with security updates for Windows machines and also SSH and SCP clients for a range of platforms; this is strongly recommended if you are going to transfer files between systems outside the CUDN and systems within.
