Printing PostScript files

All DS-Print printing is done using PostScript; however, the usual assumption is that the application which is doing the printing will itself create the PostScript for the printer from the document in the application's own format (e.g. Word etc.). Applications such as Word do not expect to be provided with material which is already in PostScript. If you receive a PostScript file or create one yourself, follow the instructions below to print from a Managed Cluster machine.

In all cases, the file will be sent to the default printer at your location. See Selecting a printer and checking queues for details on how to change the default printer.

On a Managed Cluster Windows PC

The GhostView program, which is in the Utilities folder, allows you to view a PostScript file on the screen and print it.

  • Login to the MCS as usual
  • Locate the PostScript file you wish to print
  • Double-click the file to open it with GhostView
  • Select File >Print... and click on OK to print to default printer

On a MCS Linux PC

The ghostview program is available under Graphics on the applications menu.

On a Managed Cluster Mac
