Linux System Administration

Course notes

Unix Support gives a five day hands-on Linux system administration course. This is a copy of student notes (nearly 230 pages of them) in PDF and PostScript formats.

The course is geared up for administrators of Red Hat Linux 9 (as of the current set of notes) systems within the University of Cambridge. Others are welcome to make use of the notes but please be aware there are Cambridge-specific details in them.

The course requires:

  • Familiarity with the bash shell
  • Familiarity with at least one of vi, emacs or pico -w.
  • Experience of using Linux!

Earlier versions of this course included some content which has now been moved to the Further Use of Unix course.
