Mulberry
The settings described here are as found in Mulberry version 4.
Note. The University LDAP Directory is only available to mail clients on computers on the Cambridge network. If you are away from Cambridge and wish to use the University LDAP Directory then you will need to use the VPDN service so that your computer appears to be on the Cambridge network. Alternatively you can use Hermes Webmail.
If you would like to check that Mulberry is correctly set up for accessing Hermes, please see the page on configuring Mulberry for Hermes
Configuring
- Select (for Windows) File > Preferences or (for Mac) Mulberry > Preferences
- Select Advanced (button on the right)
- Click on the Accounts tab

- In the Server field type
ldap.lookup.cam.ac.uk - The University LDAP server supports secure LDAP connections.
Use of secure connections is good practice to secure the
personal data provided by the service. From the Secure
pull-down menu at the bottom of the window select
SSLv3.
Note: If you intend to use the Lapwing wireless service you must use this setting since Lapwing does not allow insecure LDAP connections. - Select the Options tab and check Use with Address Expansion
- Select the Attributes1 tab and in the
Root field type
ou=people,o=University of Cambridge,dc=cam,dc=ac,dc=uk(be sure to type it exactly as it appears on this page) - Select OK to save your changes
NOTE: Your Mulberry configuration may already contain a reference Test LDAP (a commercial LDAP server). You may want to remove this server or your search results will contain entries outside the University Directory. To remove this entry go to (for Windows) File > Preferences or (for Mac) Mulberry > Preferences and see if the Test LDAP entry appears on the Account pull-down menu. If it is there, select it and then, from the Account pull-down menu, select Delete. Select OK to save your changes.
Using the LDAP Directory to find an address

- From the Address menu select Search for Addresses
- Check that the Find Items box is displaying using LDAP
- On the next line check that
- Full Name option is selected from the first drop down menu
- Contains is selected from the second drop down menu
- Type in the family name (or partial name) of the person you want to search for. Where possible use 4 or more characters as this will make the search more efficient.
