Applying for a managed wiki

To apply for a wiki, complete the online application form. You will need to supply the following information:-

1. Wiki Title - e.g. 'Department of Mythological Studies' or 'St. Botolph's College';
2. Wiki Name - this forms part of the URL by which the wiki is accessed (e.g mythstudies, st-botolph); note that this must be short, lower case and not contain punctuation except for a hyphen;
3. The name of the Institution to which the wiki is linked.
4. Read Access setting; this is one of the following (the default is Trusted):-
   1. Anonymous - world-readable (anyone, anywhere can read the wiki);
   2. Authenticated - anyone with a Raven account can read the wiki;
   3. Trusted (the default) - readable by a defined list of users; the list is
      • either managed within the wiki by the managers
      • or can be defined by one or more Lookup groups or institutions. If you intend to use a Lookup group then you will either need to have Editor status for the Institution in Lookup or ask someone who has to set the group up for you;
   4. Managers - read access is restricted to the managers.

5. Edit Access setting; this is one of the following (the default is Trusted):-
   1. Authenticated - anyone with a Raven account can create and edit pages in the wiki
   2. Trusted (the default) - may be edited by a defined list of users; the list is
      • either managed within the wiki by the managers
      • or can be defined (or supplemented) by one or more Lookup groups or institutions - (again someone with Editor status for the institution will need to set up the group)
      Note that if read access is Trusted then it is that set of users who will have edit rights
   3. Managers - only the wiki managers can edit the wiki.

6. Trust Group; if you chose Trusted level then you should give the
   • names of any Lookup groups (the relevant ID and Name)
   • names of any Lookup Institutions (the relevant ID and Name)
   who should have access to the wiki. See the Search tips page on Lookup for how to find this information if you are not sure what it is.
7. Names and CRSids of wiki managers; note that every manager must have a Raven account and a valid @cam email address;

Examples of choosing read and edit access

1. You want everyone with a Raven account to be able to read the wiki, but for it to be editable only by members of one institution. Choose:-
   • read access to be Authenticated
   • edit access to be Trusted
   The most straightforward way of managing a Trusted group is to use a group or Institution in Lookup, so you will need to specify the relevant ID and Name.
2. You want read and edit access for all the members of an institution, together with several other people who are not members of that Institution. All users have Raven accounts.
   • choose Trusted for both read and edit access
   • specify the Institution (Lookup ID and Name)
   When the wiki is set up you can then add accounts for the users not in the Institution.
