Printing through lpd-serv.cam.ac.uk

The University Computing Service runs a central print server for Unix-style printing. These pages are designed to explain what it does, what it does not do, how you can have your machine submit print jobs through it, and how you can register your printer with it.

In all cases, please consult with your institutional computer officer and/or network administrator before adding printers to the network or allowing lpd-serv.cam.ac.uk to print to them. Apart from being simple good manners, this also lets your CO apply any local policy or change any access restrictions which may be relevant (e.g. firewall rules).

Setting up a print client
This page tells Unix system administrators what to do to be able to print via lpd-serv.cam.ac.uk from their systems.
Adding a printer
This tells a manager of a networked printer with a JetDirect interface how to set it up and what tell us so that it can be accessed from lpd-serv.cam.ac.uk (and possibly only from lpd-serv.cam.ac.uk).
